What is Potential Traffic?

The Potential Traffic metric is an AI-driven forecast tool that analyzes your tracked domain and estimates your potential traffic, visibility, and average ranking for the keywords you’re researching.

This metric can be found in the following tools:

• Keyword Overview: to predict your domain’s potential traffic from a single target keyword and topic
• Keyword Magic Tool: to filter and sort a list of keywords by potential traffic to identify new opportunities
• Position Tracking: to predict potential traffic and visibility growth for your specific set of target keywords

The amount of traffic in the Potential Traffic metric can only be achieved for the maximum position our algorithm assumes the domain can reach if the necessary on-page and off-page optimization activities are implemented and high-quality content on the keyword topic is consistently produced.

In Position Tracking, you’ll see your predicted growth in terms of Visibility %, Estimated Traffic, and Average Position.

How is Potential Traffic Calculated?

Potential Traffic is calculated using a proprietary AI algorithm that we've developed. It assesses the thematic relevance between the domain you've entered and the keyword, considers the competition level within the topic, and takes into account metrics of your domain as well as those of competitor domains present on the SERP.

Variables in this calculation include the domain’s Personal Keyword Difficulty, Authority Score, potential position, estimated traffic values, historical Semrush data, and the current competitors on the SERP.
